3D-Balance of the pelvic static

CHIROMAS®, a new manual treatment method

 Holistic Aetiological Sustainable Individual

The number of people suffering from back pain and joint problems is increasing every year. According to a study, back
and joint injuries are the most common ailments requiring rehabilitation (Source: Deutsche Rentenversicherung, 2010). The
consequence: Over-filled clinics, rising health insurance costs, and increasing chronic ailments and surgical interventions.

This trend highlights the limited capacity to treat these ailments through holistic, aetiologic and sustainable therapy.

From my over 30 years of experience as a natural health practitioner, specialising in chiropractic, osteopathy, reflex zones and neural therapy, I have seen that misalignments of the musculoskeletal system are the most common cause for a whole host of ailments. Besides back and joint problems, pelvic imbalance also leads to migraines, lumbago, tinnitus, arthritis, golfer's shoulder, tennis elbow, and circulatory, abdominal and heart problems.

CHIROMAS® is an examination and treatment method, as well as a control system.

CHIROMAS® is an easy-to-learn basis for understanding manual therapy options. Its origins lie in aspects of the traditional secret knowledge of the East Frisian 'bone-setters'.

CHIROMAS® is derived from the Latin terms 'chiro' and 'mas' and means 'working with the hands'. The treatment encompasses
simple applications of chiropractic, osteopathy and various massage techniques.

Over decades of development I, Eginhard Oertel, natural health practitioner, have developed a uniquely complex therapy system,
 and am continually optimising it.

The goal is to treat the person in an individual and aetiological manner.

My daily experience with patients has shown that vastly different symptoms and ailments can stem from a similar background. It is important to me to identify the underlying problem and treat it. For example, relationship problems can manifest in the form of organ ailments and back pain. The cause is not always located where the symptom is felt. It is this individuality that characterises CHIROMAS®. It views the patient as a whole, and thereby brings about sustainable balance of the system.

The CHIROMAS® method is practiced in the Naturheilpraxis Oertel in Bad Kreuznach.

Note: I have successfully applied this method with thousands of patients in my clinic. Unfortunately there is as yet no scientific study to validate my findings.

3D-Balance.
Seven key points and targeted myofascial impulses

bring body and soul into balance.

Myofascial impulses are movements of the muscles and the fascia. Through targeted relaxation, muscular dysfunction and tension is resolved, as these ailments are not degenerative, but primarily have a myofascial cause.

Over 30 years of developing the method I have identified seven key points, with which the three dimensional balance of the pelvic static can be defined. 3D in this sense refers to a double measurement in the front (prone) and back (supine) positions through a comparison of both sides of the body at seven distinct, easy to detect bone points. Through this unique combination the treatment has a deeper foundation from which to permanently relieve misalignment of the static.

Point by point, the 3D-balance is reset with CHIROMAS®.

The primary focus of CHIROMAS® is on the balance of the pelvic static. Because if the pelvis, the centre of the body, is out of balance, the consequences are felt in the whole body. Pelvic obliquity, scoliosis, migraine, slipped disc, and the premature wear of the hip and knee joints are painful symptoms of imbalance. These are often accompanied by a reciprocal over tension of the masseter and temporalis (jaw and temple) muscles, which may cause displacement of the jaw joint and the atlas vertebra.

Emotional and psychological problems such as anger, rage, anxiety, fear, brooding or grief lead to muscular tension. In order to compensate for these indurations, other muscles are activated. This leads to a viscous circle which eventually brings our musculoskeletal system out of its natural balance and causes chronic ailments.

With the help of the seven key points, the causes underlying individual situations are revealed and thereby made accessible for therapy.

The CHIROMAS® method is clearly laid out in three steps:

1. Applying the seven key points

First the seven different key points are measured in both the front and back (prone and supine) positions. The key points are particular bone points, which are measured in relation to each other.

In conventional treatment the patient is typically compared in only two dimensions. This means in order to determine pelvic obliquity, or a difference in the length of the legs, measurements are only taken in one position – either in supine or prone, or while standing.

This is where CHIROMAS® offers a new and unique approach. Only a systematic comparison of all control points on the body's front and back sides results in an all-round or three dimensional perspective. The measurements quickly and clearly reveal to the therapist how the 3D-balance of the pelvis can be directly and aetiologically reestablished.

Despite comprehensive research, no treatment system has been found that utilises the three dimensional perspective of the body as CHIROMAS® does.

Example of localisation of the key points:

The first measurement points of the seven key points are the inner ankle bones of the foot, when lying in the supine position. Here the hollows below the inner ankles are felt with the thumbs and compared. Both thumbs must be held in the exact same way, so that differences can be reliably ascertained. Key point 1 is a control point that shows the status of balance in the supine position.

2. Setting the impulses

The myofascial impulse technique is a highly effective treatment for loosening muscle hardening and tensions revealed during examination. By targeted setting of particular impulses, malfunction and joint misalignment causing the pelvic static disorder are resolved. Myofascial issues are often the cause of dysfunction and illness in the musculoskeletal system.

Fascia are soft tissue structures, which provide connectivity within the body. This network binds all parts of the body together into a whole and supports and protects it. During movement, fascia are an elastic buffer. Through poor posture, overload and injury, the fascia lose their elasticity, which leads to seizing up of the connective tissue and eventually limits movement.

While physical assessment using the seven key points offers a unique possibility to localise deficits of the body static, the CHIROMAS® impulse technique encompasses a combination of acupuncture, neural therapy and traditional massage methods.

For example, the Chinese Tuina method employs manual stimulation of acupuncture points to remove blockages in the energy channels, and thereby promotes the life force. This treatment has a 5000-year tradition.

Furthermore, this manual Chinese medicine sets its impulses via distant points, far away from the actual location of the complaint. However, via the conduction channels, the acupuncture points are directly related to the locations of complaint. In this way, energy flow to the organs can be regulated.

Another impulse technique is the Bowen Method from Australia, whereby light rolling movements of the fingers are used to apply so-called 'Bowen Moves', which then give impulses to the muscles, sinews, tendons, and fascia.

Example of the targeted setting of impulses:

In the case where the assessment of the seven key points has established a misalignment of key point number 2, it is necessary to set various impulses on the spine at the neck, neck muscles or the jaw joint. Through a combination of diverse traditional impulse techniques, it is possible to balance the pelvic tilt and to bring the body back into its original balance. Whether the impulse intensity is sufficient, or needs to be increased, becomes apparent with the next comparative measurement.

3. Monitoring treatment success

After each impulse it is immediately possible to measure a change in the key points. However, it is essential that all seven key points are balanced for a sense of well-being to be immediately experienced. Ailments resulting from imbalance, such as most back pain and many forms of migraine (among others), are treated with CHIROMAS® in an aetiological manner.

Once the 3D balance is reestablished, muscles function more economically, blood, lymph and energy flow more freely, joints have reduced abrasion, and the body's self-healing capacity is activated. At the same time, recurring tension points reveal emotional aspects that are out of balance and in need of development. Processing these insights leads the patient to enhanced lightness, health and joy in life.
